Can anyone say beach?

We are heading to North Myrtle Beach on Saturday for a much anticipated family vacation.  This will be the third year to do this and we can’t wait.  We love going during the first week of September because all the kids are back to school and things there are peaceful and quite.  Yes, Emma has started school this year but she’s already missing some days.  We just decided that we are not going to let the public school dictate our family times together.  We are respectful of it but it won’t hold us back.  Dave is gone all summer so it’s special to be able to find time at the end of the summer travel to get together with our extended family.

I can’t wait to sit and watch the ocean, hear the waves put me to sleep at night, ride the lazy river for hours each day, walk the beach, build sand castles with the girls, play an outlandish amount of putt putt, have some fun date nights with my hubby and sister and brother in law.

Here is a picture from our first year at the beach in 2006.  I was major prego at the time…oh my!  But look at this clan.  We have a lot of fun together.

And last year, floating on the lazy river…..  One of the funniest memories was seeing great papa get on the lazy river and flip.  Well funny for us watching but not funny for him.

I’ll fill you in next week on our daily activities.  But until then, I’ve got to go and pack for vacation!  Oh yeah…stay away hurricanes please!

A family weekend

29 Sunday Jun 2008

We have had such a wonderful “family weekend.”  Dave got home late Friday night and the girls we so excited to see daddy sleeping in our bed when they woke up Saturday morning.  We had lots of morning laughs yesterday as the level of energy around here was at it’s max.  We headed off to an early lunch in Greenville and enjoyed our favorite pizza place and then walked to get our ice cream.  Izzie was back home in time for a nap while Emma enjoyed a dip in Nana’s pool.

Last night “Uncle Vegas” aka David Reichley came over to watch the girls while Dave and I headed out for a date.  David is Courtney’shusband.  Courtney  and the kids are currently up in Pittsburgh with her family and David is here working.  He’s a big famiy guy and it’s funny watching him not to know what to do with himself as his family is away.  So he’s offering to come and hang out with our kids.  He’s crazy but we really enjoyed getting a date night.

When we got home all three of us watched “The Great Debaters.” What a great moving that was.  Dave and I really enjoyed it.  It’s amazing all the stories out there that have never been told.  Did I mention we really enjoyed this movie?

Tomorrow, Dave heads back out to camp.  This time he will be at a Student Life for Kids camp in Talledega, AL.  He is taking Emma with him.  She has been talking about “camp with dad” since last summer.  When she came home last summer she looked like this….  Needless to say she can’t wait to get on the road tomorrow!

Hero for the day

I was a hero today.  Two old guys in chairs looked at me funny when my little girl screamed out time and time again… Praise the Lord!  We caught one!  I just gave the old men a grin.

Emma and I have talked about catching a fish in the ocean since last summer.  Nana even brought her a net for this time at the beach.  When I say fish I mean a little minnow.  So after a lot of hard work on my end and a huge bunch of luck, I caught a small crab in a shell and a little minnow.

It was worth all the joy on her face.  After the Praise the Lord outbreak she went on to say that catching a fish is all she ever wanted.  I hate to tell her differently but for now it’s nice to be the hero.

Camp is off and running

Camp here in Daytona is off to a good start.  I’ve been able to attend both nights of worship so far.  It’s good to be able to sit and support Dave.  He works so hard and I’m not kidding when I say he puts all his time and energy into every time he is given a platform to communicate.  I respect him so much for what he does and the preparation he puts into things.  It’s just good to be physically in the room with him this week.  It’s good to be a part of the journey that the camp is on.  It’s the only time I’ll be heading to camp with Dave this summer.  Well I take that back.  I may attempt a few days in Talladega, AL sometime in July.  Still too early to tell.  It’s just hard with Izzie and being on the road.  She’s wonderful but she’s also an 18month old in a hotel room with 5 other people and playing in the pool and beach which she is not all that accustomed to.  My mom is here with us so I have absolutely no room to complain about managing things.  Nana has been a HUGE help and I think she is…well I know she is loving being here at the beach.

So here are a few pics from the day.  It was so much fun watching the girls play at the beach.

There is one place in the USA that I would dare to say holds on their menu one of my favorite meals.  It’s a little place called Dixie Crossroads.  They have the world famous Rock Shrimp.  I swear it tastes like small bites of Lobster.  I have been known to throw back 4 dozen in one sitting.  Today I just had one dozen since their prices seemed to have jumped just a bit from the last time we were there.  But I savored every bite! So if you are ever passing through Titusville, FL make the stop and you won’t regret it!

Izzie is not sure of what to make of the Rock Shrimp!:

This is Rock Shrimp… I know but it’s really good…I promise!

Home for a day and on the road again

Daddy came home last night. We met him at Frankie’s Fun Park in Greenville. Emma was so excited she ran from hole to hole and was worn out at the end of 18 holes. Izzie was glad to see her daddy too. It was the first time that when she saw him she started smiling and laughing and reaching for him.

Dave had a good week at Lee University at a Student Life camp and heads out tomorrow to TX for another camp at Austin College, Sherman TX. While at this past camp a guy took some random pictures of Dave and gave him a disk. So here are a few of him. Many are curious as to what Dave actually does for a living. Well this is part of what he does….

It is hard at times having a husband who travels a lot during different seasons of a year. Especially when his biggest time of travel hits during the summer when the kids are at home and most families are spending more time together. However, I would not trade this life of ours for anything. There is nothing more rewarding or fulfilling than living out God given dreams with a community of friends. The sacrifice (if I can even call it that) is nothing compared to the knowing that our family is on a mission and impacting the lives of others so that they can wake up and have life to the fullest. Anyone can be a part of that mission. You’ve just got to get off your butt and make it happen.

I am still coming up with ideas for my croc plan. I’ll keep you posted….
